Israel massacres humanitarian aid workers

At least 15 activists from the “Free-Gaza” campaign were killed this morning on a ship, part of a flotilla trying to enter the Gaza strip to bring humanitarian aid to the Palestinians.

In a pre-dawn raid in international waters the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) entered and opened fire on the ships. After the white flag was put up, there were still reports of the IDF continuing the attack. Altogether there were about 700 activists on board, including MPs and a survivor of the Holocaust.

Together with hundreds of thousands around the globe we are deeply shocked by the killings. Now we need to turn the widespread anger into organised protest. REVOLUTION therefore not only strongly condemns the actions taken by the Israeli state and its army but also calls for broad actions of protest against Israel and its blockade of the Gaza strip. Governments across the world have released statements questioning whether Israel’s response was “proportionate”. This is not enough. We demand that every government of every country condemn the siege of Gaza and immediately withdraws all military and economic aid to the Zionist state.

Since the state of Israel was founded the Palestinian people have been under constant attack. Starting with their displacement in 1948, several military attacks and wars have been led by Israel against the Arab population. The last one – the war against Gaza in 2008/9 created a situation of absolute carnage within the Gaza strip. 1.5 million people are currently living in an area which had its economy almost completely destroyed by the siege.

The siege does not only mean Gazans cannot import basic goods to keep the infrastructure running (electricity, clean water, medicine, etc.) but has also caused the death of hundreds of who are refused medical treatment outside of the Gaza-Strip. Furthermore the Palestinians are only allowed to fish in the parts of the sea near to the coast, causing severe hunger. All this has led to a situation where 80 percent of the population of the Gaza strip live under extreme poverty and where only 20 percent of needed goods are available.

Israel is a racist and apartheid capitalist state. REVOLUTION strongly opposes the attempt of the Israeli state to speak and justify its actions in the name of all Jews. REVOLUTION is in favour of smashing the Israeli state and its military apparatus. We want to replace it with a secular socialist state of the Jewish and the Arab populations with the perspective of a united socialist federation of the Arabic countries.

Am Montag morgen den 31. Mai wurden 15 AktivistInnen der „Free Gaza“ Kampagne getötet, als ihr Schiff, das Teil einer Flotte war, die humanitäre Hilfsmittel in den Gazastreifen bringen sollte, angegriffen wurde. Im Morgengrauen griffen Truppen der IDF (Israeli Defense Force) auf internationalen Gewässern die Schiffe an und eröffneten das Feuer. Auch nachdem die weiße Flagge bereits gehisst war soll das Feuer von der IDF nicht eingestellt worden sein. Insgesamt befanden sich um die 700 AktivistInnen an Bord einschließlich Abgeordneten und einem Überlebenden des Holocaust.

Zusammen mit hundert tausenden weltweit sind wir schockiert aufgrund dieses ekelhaften Mords! Doch nun ist es wichtig die Wut in organisierten Widerstand umzuwandeln. REVOLUTION verurteilt daher nicht nur die Angriffe des israelischen Staates und seiner Armee sondern ruft zu breiten Aktionen gegen Israel und seine Isolierung des Gaza Streifens auf.

Seit Israels Gründung wurden die PalästinenserInnen unterdrückt und angegriffen. Begonnen mit ihrer Vertreibung im Jahr 1948 gab es mehrere militärische Angriffe und Kriege gegen das palästinensische Volk von Seiten des israelischen Staates. Der letzte Krieg in Gaza 2008/09 schuf eine Situation totaler Zerstörung vor Ort. 1,5 Millionen Menschen leben momentan im Gazastreifen, dessen Wirtschaft fast vollkommen zerstört wurde, unter vollkommener Isolation.

Diese Isolation bedeutet nicht nur die Unmöglichkeit die wichtigsten Grundgüter importieren zu können oder die Infrastruktur aufrecht zu erhalten sondern auch, dass hunderte Menschen sterben, weil es ihnen nicht erlaubt ist medizinische Hilfe außerhalb des Gaza-Streifens in Anspruch zu nehmen. Außerdem ist es den PalästinenserInnen nur erlaubt in küstennahem Gewässer zu fischen, was bedeutet, dass sie keinen Zugang zu den fischreicheren Gewässern haben. All das führt zu einer Situation in der 80% der Bevölkerung im Gaza Streifen unter extremer Armut leben und nur 20% der gebrauchten Güter zur Verfügung stehen.

Israel ist ein rassistischer bürgerlicher Apartheidstaat, der seine eigene Bevölkerung genauso unterdrückt, wie die PalästinenserInnen und der seit Jahrzehnten ein Kriegsaggressor und Statthalter des Imperialismus im Nahen Osten ist. REVOLUTION stellt sich mit aller Entschlossenheit gegen den Anspruch des zionistischen Israel im Namen aller Juden sprechen und richten zu können, insbesondere unter dem Aspekt, dass während der Angriffe fast ein überlebender des Holocausts unter dem Feuer des IDF gestorben wäre. REVOLUTION ist für eine Zerschlagung des israelischen Staates und seiner Ersetzung durch einen gemeinsamen säkularen und sozialistischen Staat, in dem JüdInnen und AraberInnen gemeinsam leben können. Gleichzeitig braucht es auch eine Perspektive der Überwindung aller anderen reaktionären Regime im Nahen Osten, mit der Perspektive einer Föderation der sozialistischen Staaten des Nahen Ostens.
